He couldn’t pull it off at TPC Sawgrass, but Matt Fitzpatrick got his win in the Florida swing.

Fitzpatrick edged out David Lipsky with a clutch birdie at the 18th on Sunday afternoon to claim a one-shot win at the Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor. Fitzpatrick posted a 3-under 68 in his final round to get to 11-under in the tournament.

Fitzpatrick stuck his approach at the par-4 18th about 14 feet from the cup, and then sank his birdie putt to take the lead with players still behind him. That sparked a huge celebration for him on the putting surface, and eventually secured his one-shot win.

Fitzpatrick, who finished second last week at The Players Championship, entered the day at 8-under. Sungjae Im carried a two-shot lead into the final round after leading for three days, but Im fell back Sunday with a 3-over. Lipsky started the day at 9-under, but posted only a single birdie in his final 13 holes to leave the door open for Fitzpatrick.

The Valspar Championship offered a $9.1 million purse, which is among the lowest offered this season on Tour. That left Fitzpatrick with a $1.638 million check for his win.

The win was the third of Fitzpatrick’s career on the PGA Tour, and his first since the RBC Heritage in 2023. Sunday marked his third top-10 finish this season, and he’s yet to miss a cut in seven starts.
