NISKAYUNA, N.Y. — A bald eagle found unable to fly near the Mohawk River was recently rescued.

On July 19, officers from the State Environmental Conservation Police responded to the report regarding the injured eagle on Goat Island at Lock 7 in Niskayuna.

The angler who alerted the DEC provided towels to help safely secure the national bird while officers called for additional support.

Another officer arrived with a box to transport the eagle, which was subsequently taken to the Friends of the Feathered and Furry rehabilitation center in Greene County for care.

The DEC followed up with the rehab center staff and learned that the eagle is recovering well and will be banded prior to its release.
