Arsenal have signed Viktor Gyokeres to much fanfare, with supporters hoping the Sweden striker can fire them to glory this season.

Arsenal agreed a £64million deal for Gyokeres after weeks of talks with Sporting CP, who sanctioned his move eventually.

However, while Arsenal fans are buzzing over Gyokeres’ arrival, a number of rivals have expressed doubt over how effective he will be.

For instance, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has doubts over Gyokeres and his ability to perform in the Premier League.

Now, former Red Devils player Demetri Mitchell has backed a rival Premier League striker to score more than Gyokeres.

Mitchell, who came through the ranks at Man United and is now at Leyton Orient, took to X to claim that Gyokeres looked sluggish on his debut.

“Can’t lie big man does look heavy still,” Mitchell said of Gyokeres’ outing against Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong.

Mitchell then backed Man United striker Rasmus Hojlund to get more goals than Gyokeres in 2025/26.

“Gonna put it out there Hojlund will have a better season than Gyokeres,” he wrote.

Rasmus Hojlund may not even be at Manchester United next season

Hojlund joined Man United to much fanfare in 2023, the Red Devils agreeing an initial £64million deal with Atalanta for the Dane, plus £8million in add-ons.

However, Hojlund has flattered to deceive at Old Trafford, and speculation over his future at the club has intensified in recent weeks.

TBR Football have revealed that intermediaries have once again touched base with several clubs about the prospect of Hojlund leaving Man United.

Man United are currently in talks over RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, and his arrival would push Hojlund further down the pecking order.

Obviously everyone starts the season with a clean slate so there’s every chance Hojlund could indeed do better than Gyokeres – but for which club?
