WEAVERVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein attended the groundbreaking ceremony for AdventHealth’s new hospital in Weaverville on Thursday, March 26.

The groundbreaking marks the next step in bringing the new hospital to Weaverville and expanding access to care across the region, according to a news release from AdventHealth.

“This new hospital in Weaverville is an investment in the health and economic future of western North Carolina. It will create good-paying jobs, reduce transport times for first responders, and expand access to care for families across the region,” Stein said via a press release from the governor’s office.

AdventHealth announced it will be a 67-bed hospital, which was approved by the state in 2022. HCA Healthcare’s Mission Health had appealed the state’s ruling, and following three years of court battles, the court ruled in favor of AdventHealth proceeding with the project.

AdventHealth said the state approved the new Weaverville hospital through the Certificate of Need process, but construction couldn’t begin while Mission’s appeals were under review. Now that the court has ruled in favor of AdventHealth, the construction can begin.
