WOODFIN, N.C. (WLOS) — UPDATE 3:03 p.m. – Woodfin water officials have repaired the break, with water service being restored in the affected area at 2:40 p.m.
______________
Residents along Weaverville Highway in Woodfin can expect low to no water pressure after a water main break occurred on Thursday, March 26, town officials announced.
The affected area includes customers from Blackstone Avenue to the intersection of Interstate 26, as well as Mills Place and Audubon Drive. There is currently no estimated time for restoration, the Woodfin Water District said.
WATER SERVICE RESTORED AFTER OUTAGES IMPACTED PARTS OF WOODFIN AND ASHEVILLE
Seth Eckard of Woodfin Water said about 75 to 100 customers were impacted by the outage and estimated repairs would be completed sometime Thursday evening.
Eckard added that Thursday’s break was unrelated to the main break on Tuesday, March 23, which disrupted water service to customers and businesses for much of the afternoon and evening.
On Tuesday, March 24, Merrimon/Mills Place to Midland Drive experienced low to no water pressure. The main line break was repaired, but a second leak occurred further up the line on Tuesday evening.
According to an announcement on the water department’s website, Tuesday’s incident began around 12:30 p.m. when a staff member noticed water seeping from a bank into a creek near Merrimon Avenue.
Woodfin Water said crews discovered a circular break on a six-inch transmission main leaking about 100 to 150 gallons per minute. The utility also said crews encountered three fiber-optic cables and a natural gas transmission line just inches above and beside the water main during excavation, making the work difficult and potentially hazardous.
The post explained the repair process for Tuesday’s outage, noting that complications delayed water restoration until 11 p.m.
