Several of the Florida Gators top priorities in the Class of 2027 were on campus on Saturday for the Florida Gators first scrimmage of the spring.
Receiver Trenton Yancey (5-10, 190, Duncanville, TX. High) was on campus for the first time on Saturday and enjoyed the scrimmage.
“It was good, just seeing the first scrimmage of their new staff coming in,” Yancey said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “It was good, just seeing guys fly around a high intensity practice and I just liked everything about it.”
While watching the scrimmage on Saturday, several players stood out to Yancey including two different receivers.
“I don’t know the names, number 3 [Bailey Stockton], the transfer from Georgia Tech,” he said on guys that impressed him during the scrimmage. “VB3, the quarterback Trammell [Jones], I can keep going, a lot of guys are doing a lot of impressive things.”
The coaching staff made it a priority for Yancey to be on campus on Saturday and they just wanted him to see if Florida was a place he could see himself at.
“It was really just like just to come out and see the practice and see how things go,” Yancey said on the message. “See if it’s something that I can see myself doing on a daily basis.”
Saturday was a chance for Yancey to see receivers coach Marcus Davis in person and he liked the energy he brought to the table.
“Good, just seeing him in person, it was good,” he said on seeing Marcus Davis again. “He’s a more energetic person in person, I would say. Even just with his players and the team.”
Davis and head coach Jon Sumrall made Yancey feel like a priority during the visit and he feels like he can make an instant impact in Gainesville.
“I would say it’s just a place to come in early and make a big impact,” Yancey said on what he likes about Florida. “The logo and the guys that surround the coaches and the people like personnel staff, they’re all just very friendly and very welcoming.”
Several things stood out to Yancey during the trip including the people around the program and how they treat the players and how the players reacted during the scrimmage.
“I would say the people, the people are alive, it feels like family,” he said on what stood out during the visit. “The practices are very like, everybody is just moving. There’s no one really with bad energy or had a bad practice but they made a bad play and they just come back and shake it off.”
After the visit, Yancey says the Gators made a move for him and he will be back for an official visit this summer as the Gators are chasing another SEC school.
“Florida would be number two on my list,” Yancey said. “Mississippi State would be number one.”
