Nelly Furtado has returned to the spotlight in the most spectacular way almost six months after announcing she was quitting music for the “foreseeable future”.

Back in October, the Canadian singer shocked fans when she revealed she was stepping away from the stage to focus on other “creative and personal endeavours” in the wake of body-shaming comments she received from social media trolls.

However, in the last few days, Furtado has re-emerged at various industry events in her home country looking happier and more fashionable than ever.

Last Friday, the singer wore a midnight blue silk bodysuit under a matching power suit to the Women’s College Hospital Foundation’s 15th Annual Women for Women’s event in Toronto, where she was recognised as the 2026 Trailblazer.

“Being surrounded by so many inspiring women and their stories was a beautiful reminder of how important community and supporting one another is!” she captioned a carousel of photos from the event on Instagram.

On Monday, she then frocked up for the Juno Awards in Ontario, where she was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Walking the red carpet at the venue, Furtado looked stunning in an eye-catching red and black floor-length ballgown.

“I’m thrilled to celebrate with my fellow community of Canadian musicians!” she wrote on Instagram ahead of the ceremony. “I’m feeling so grateful (and nervous!).”

Over the weekend, the singer also wowed in a skin-tight, brown maxi dress as she teased her upcoming new single with a high-energy video featuring producer Boi-1da.

“New muuuusic! Excited to share this and grateful to be part of this exciting collabo @boi1da x @perfectpitchcanada x @canadasoccer,” she wrote alongside the clip. “Electric Circus out April 10!”

This marks the first time since in two years that Furtado will drop new music. Her last album, 7, which was aptly her seventh studio album, was released back in 2024.

The singer’s fans are equally excited for her new music and return to the spotlight.

“Yeees! PLEASE DON’T STOP TO MAKE MUSIC. Real fans love you. 7 is still on repeat,” one commented on Instagram, as another wrote, “That’s great! She should keep doing music.”

“Happy you are happy! You look and are amazing,” commented one user wrote, with another excitedly saying, “Yesssss we are ready Miss Nelly.”

When the online body-shaming attacks over her onstage outfits and body reached fever-pitch last year, Furtado subsequently made a pointed fashion statement while headlining Manchester Pride in August.

She stepped on stage in an oversized optical illusion T-shirt with a cartoon hourglass body outline in a cinched up crop top, miniskirt and belt reading “Whoa Nelly.”

The back of the cartoon-emblazoned shirt read, “Better than ever” in a tattoo font.

However, just two months later, the singer was ready for a break from the spotlight.

“25 years later, my music has reached a whole new generation of fans and I couldn’t be happier about that,” she wrote via Instagram at the time. “All this aside, I have decided to step away from performance for the foreseeable future and pursue some other creative and personal endeavours that I feel would better suit this next phase of my life.”

“I have enjoyed my career immensely, and I still love writing music as I have always seen it as a hobby I was lucky enough to make into a career,” she continued, adding that she’ll “identify as a songwriter forever”.
