Scientists may have created a “night vision laser”.
Our extraordinary progression as a society has been gaining serious traction in recent years. When a team of scientists made an ultra-thin chip to study the unseen light of the world, they accidentally created something else entirely, a steerable green beam.
How can this new innovation steer the green light it creates?
What we have accomplished over the last 100 years is remarkable
The last century has been a progressive one for our species.
In the 1920s, the advent of penicillin created the modern world of antibiotics. Before Alexander Fleming discovered it in 1928, they simply did not exist, forcing millions into a world of health issues with no possible solution.
The pace of progression has been remarkable as we enter a new era.
In 1924, we circumnavigated the world in 175 days; a mere 45 years later, we were landing people on the Moon. Technology has enabled the human species to progress at a rapid pace never seen before in our history.
The energy sector has been revolutionized over the last few decades
Our technological advancement has mostly been a necessity to generate more energy for everyday life.
And the methods used for power production are changing at a rapid pace. Solar panels have become the latest must-have for any climate-conscious homeowner, and can easily power your entire home with a few simple hacks to increase efficiency.
The latest issues that have emerged out of the Strait of Hormuz have devastated the global price of Brent Crude Oil.
Some states are seeing gas stations with up to $8 per gallon. The public outcry has reached a fever pitch as people face increasingly high prices for everything from gas to flights. The partial government shutdown has not helped in that regard.
Certain states have implemented policies to help those who need it most.
Several states have been reducing the rates for electricity for some customers. However, it would appear that the price of keeping the lights on is only going in one direction: up.
While the transition to renewable energy generation is a step in the right direction, it does not really help us right now and is more of a long-term solution.
A recent innovation that has emerged from the Advanced Science Research Center may change how we move forward as a society. A controllable and steerable beam of light definitely sounds like something out of Star Wars, but it’s real.
Scientists inadvertently created a “night vision laser pointer”
A team of researchers from the Advanced Science Research Center has created an astonishing innovation.
The team turned a complex scientific experiment into something straight out of a James Bond movie. As we know, there is a world of hidden infrared light that exists around us, which has been the basis for new technological innovations like the James Webb Space Telescope.
Infrared light telescopes can peer past the mountains of space dust to reveal some amazing truths about our universe. But this innovation is much closer to home.
An ultra-thin chip that acts to create its own beam of light
The team created what they call a metasurface chip that is far thinner than a strand of human hair. Initially, they only wanted to study how the chip reacts to infrared light waves, but they stumbled on another unexpected finding.
They found that the chip produces a bright green beam.
What makes this discovery even cooler is that the beam of green infrared light is not only visible but can actually be steered in a specific direction. We have learned the possible military applications of beams of light, but this one could lead to revelations in our most-needed technology.
The green beam of light could affect everything from Smartphone Night-Vision to better medical imaging in the near future.
