The Hawaii Police Department is currently conducting “police activity” in Puna near the intersection of Pili Mua Street and Old Volcano Road in Keaau.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the next several hours, police said in a bulletin at about 1:30 p.m.
Old Volcano Road is closed between Highway 11 and Keaau-Pahoa Road.
Pedestrians and residents in the immediate area are also advised to remain clear of the scene for their safety.
