CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — The Credit One Charleston Open’s top seed and reigning champ Jessica Pegula squeaked out another victory in round three of the tournament over Elisabetta Cocciaretto 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 on Thursday.
Just a day after the longest win of her career, Pegula went the distance once again, and her championship pedigree shone when winning time approached.
The road ahead for Pegula gets more difficult as she is set to square off against 21-year-old up-and-comer Diana Shnaider, the WTA No. 19-ranked singles player who hasn’t dropped a single set all tournament.
