KNBR host Adam Copeland took a shot at rival sports station 95.7 The Game on Thursday over a reportedly AI-generated typo in its Sharks coverage.
The station shared a clip from a morning show that discussed San Jose’s comeback 4-3 win against the Anaheim Ducks. While the victory was incredible in its own right, 95.7’s Facebook post sharing the clip made it more incredible by stating that the comeback happened when the Sharks were “Down by 2 goals in the fourth period.” The “fourth period” gaffe is a glaring error since regulation NHL games stop at three, but it’s also worth noting the Sharks never dealt with more than a one-goal deficit.
“4th period….Do you guys even WATCH sports @957thegame?” Copeland wrote on X with a screenshot of 95.7’s post.
Copeland then fanned the flames of the feud a bit more with a follow-up that included some sourced reporting.
“UPDATE on the @957thegame ‘4th Period’ SCANDAL: Sources from inside the Game say this was NOT a typo, they use AI to generate their captions (true story)…cuz that’s WAY better,” Copeland wrote, with a cry-laughing emoji. “This is a developing story. Tune into @KNBR for more updates.”
The zingers continued on Copeland’s show with Derek Papa, “Dirty Work,” as they were discussing last night’s game with former Sharks TV broadcaster Brodie Brazil.
“I just want to declare: I think the Sharks have been one of the best fourth-period teams in the NHL lately,” Brazil began.
“Copes was going in on them over there, huh?” he continued. “… Some things you gotta, you gotta hold ’em to a standard on. If we’re covering the Sharks on AI, I don’t know about that.”
As of Thursday afternoon, the post in the screenshot was no longer on 95.7 The Game’s Facebook page. The clip was still up on TikTok, but with a different caption.
