Michigan point guard Elliot Cadeau arrived in Indianapolis this morning, a day after his teammates made the trip, after suffering an allergic reaction yesterday. The U-M point guard confirmed that the doctors had cleared him for 100 percent participation following a scare.

“Everything’s good,” Cadeau said. “I ate something I was allergic to … it was a little scary because I’ve had a reaction like that before in my life. It was bad. That’s why I went to the hospital so quickly, because I was scared it would be bad, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was.”

Cadeau is allergic to cashews, and he accidentally ate some that was on the salmon he had for lunch. His last experience, in fifth grade, resulted in a much worse reaction, so they didn’t take any chances in taking him off the bus and by ambulance to the hospital after he started to break out in hives.

“Just relief,” he said when asked to describe the experience. “I was good the whole time. I felt like it wasn’t as dramatic as it seemed. I was chilling the whole time. I never felt nervous about it.”

Now that he’s here, he’s concentrating on helping lead his team to a national title. The Wolverines will face Arizona with big point guard Jaden Bradley Saturday. If they win, they’ll take on the winner of UConn and Illinois.

“It means everything. I take pride in winning, a lot,” Cadeau said of U-M’s season to date. “To be on the biggest stage, to be able to win this much and get to the Final Four is a great accomplishment for me and my teammates.

“[Bradley] is Big 12 player of the year, really good. I’m just blessed to be able to go against people like that, play against him. I definitely always look forward to it.”

Michigan head coach Dusty May, meanwhile, is just happy to have Cadeau back and healthy.

“It was very unfortunate for him to have to go through that,” he said. “We’re blessed he’s okay. It shows how much he means to his teammates … they were very concerned, like we all would be.

“We’re grateful that he’s fine. The dude’s a warrior. He’ll be fine.”
