Anticipation is building ahead of the 2026 ATP Fantasy season, and Dominic Thiem is offering fans an early glimpse into the mindset required to succeed in the game.
Launching this weekend at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, ATP Fantasy introduces a fresh way for fans to engage with the Tour. Players step into the role of a team manager, selecting a roster of ATP stars each week and earning points based on real-life performances.
Thiem, the former No. 3 player in the PIF ATP Rankings and 2020 US Open champion, has already begun fine-tuning his lineup and he will give fans his tips throughout the season, providing a unique, player-led perspective on how to navigate the game week by week. Think of the Austrian as your assistant manager.
“I’m really excited about ATP Fantasy because it’s amazing to pick a team and find a strategy,” Thiem said. “I currently have Alcaraz, Zverev, Darderi, Draper, and as alternates, Francisco Cerundolo and Etcheverry. I still need to fill my team because I’m waiting for the results in Marrakech, Houston and Bucharest, as there are some very interesting players there.”
As Thiem highlights, success in ATP Fantasy is built on smart squad construction. Managers must balance premium stars with lower-cost options, while staying within the credit budget and adapting selections week to week. Choosing a Bonus Ball player is key, with that selection earning double points.

Beyond match wins, the scoring system rewards specific strengths. Big servers can rack up points through aces, while dominant performances — such as straight-sets victories — offer additional bonuses. That makes it important to study player tendencies, recent form and surface suitability. With those tactics in mind, Thiem offered further insight into his thinking.
“You have to choose either Alcaraz or Sinner as they have such a high chance of winning the tournament,” Thiem said of the current top two players in the PIF ATP Rankings. “After them, it’s also important to check out what happened in the past years of this tournament: who played well on clay.
“At first, I had Davidovich Fokina in my team because, for eight coins, he is pretty cheap, and he’s also played the final in Monte-Carlo before. That’s why I was really keen to choose him, but obviously he pulled out of the tournament. I chose Zverev, for example, because he can always give you aces, and they are worth two points each.”
With the first clay-court ATP Masters 1000 event of the season beginning Sunday in Monte-Carlo, ATP Fantasy is ready to add a new layer of intrigue, and with Thiem’s early strategy in mind, fans have a blueprint to start building their own winning teams.
