COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — An eaglet named Star is in critical condition after falling from a bald eagle’s nest near Broadcast Lake in Grandview Heights.
The incident occurred on Friday after the eaglet’s mother, Athena, also fell from the nest earlier that day, according to Ohio Division of Wildlife Manager Gary Comer Jr.
Athena then left the area and has not returned to the nest.
It is not clear what caused them to fall.
Comer estimated the nest was situated 40 to 60 feet up in a tree.
“Star was breathing shallow and had no energy,” Comer said.
The eaglet was transported to the Ohio Wildlife Sanctuary in Mansfield, where Comer said the prognosis is poor.
The father eagle, Apollo, was away hunting at the time of the incident but has since returned to the nest.
