BOISE, Idaho — Jeremy Ioane, a former Boise State safety and member of the Broncos’ 2014 Fiesta Bowl championship team, has died, according to the program on Saturday.

Ioane, a native of Honolulu, Hawai‘i, played for Boise State from 2010 to 2014 and was part of four bowl-winning teams during his career.

After redshirting in 2010, Ioane developed into a key contributor in the Broncos’ secondary. He earned All-Mountain West Honorable Mention honors in 2012, was named to the All-Mountain West Second Team in 2013, and entered the 2014 season as a preseason candidate for the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the nation’s top defensive back.

Over his career, Ioane appeared in 41 games with 29 starts, recording 146 tackles and five interceptions. He made his first collegiate start in 2011 against Georgia and became a mainstay on defense, starting 25 of 26 games across the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

During his time at Boise State, Ioane also battled kidney disease and underwent dialysis treatments during his senior season in 2014. After starting the first three games of that year, he moved into a reserve role but continued to contribute, finishing the season with two interceptions and 11 tackles. His final tackle came on Senior Night against Utah State.

Ioane’s perseverance inspired teammates and fans alike, sparking the #10aneStrong movement — a tribute to his No. 10 jersey and resilience. Boise State fans wore #10aneStrong shirts throughout his senior season to show their support.

In May 2015, Ioane underwent a kidney transplant, with his twin sister, Jasmine, serving as the donor.

Ioane’s legacy also extended beyond the field. His presence helped pave the way for future players from Hawai‘i, as Boise State has had at least one Hawaiian player on its roster every year since he joined the program in 2010.
