Lauren and Sienna Betts would join an unheralded active WNBA star and her sister as the only siblings to win a women’s NCAA basketball title on the same team if UCLA wins on Sunday over South CarolinaLauren Betts

UCLA centers Lauren and Sienna Betts can make history on Sunday: they can become the second pair of sisters to win an NCAA women’s basketball title while on the same team in the 21st century.

This feat has been accomplished recently in other sports. Quarterbacks Fernando and Alberto Mendoza were the top two names for their position on Indiana’s depth chart when they won the NCAA football title last fall.

Who was the only other pair of women’s college basketball players to do it? That honor belongs to current Indiana Fever guard Lexie Hull and her sister, Lacie. The identical twins both played and won when Stanford won the 2021 NCAA championship with a nervy 54-43 victory over Arizona.

Lexie Hull was arguably Stanford’s second-best player.

The three-time First-team All Pac-12 selection was selected with the sixth pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft by Indiana. She scored 10 points in 34 in the title game.

Lacie never quite matched the highs of her sister, but she was a four-year rotation player for the famous Stanford program. She played five minutes against Arizona in the final.

“We can read each other on the court,” Lexie said of playing with her twin. “Even in life outside of basketball, we see things, and we kind of think the same way or will respond to things in a very similar way.”

Lauren and Sienna Betts are not twins — Lauren is a senior, and Sienna is a freshman. Lauren just wrapped up a second-straight First-team All-American campaign and looks poised to become a top-five pick in the WNBA Draft next month.

Sienna is three years younger and just earned a spot on the Big 10 Freshman Team, serving as Lauren’s backup center throughout her first collegiate season.

Who are some other famous sister teammates in women’s college basketball? Chiney and Nneka Ogwumike reached a pair of Final Fours together at Stanford in 2011 and 2012, though they never won a title. Both were No. 1 picks in WNBA Drafts.

The Paris twins — Ashley and Courtney — played at Oklahoma from 2005 to 2009. Both were multi-time First-team All-Big 12 selections.

Courtney was one of the greatest college players ever, earning four First-team All-American nods. They reached the 2009 Final Four but never won a title.

On the men’s side, Mason and Miles Plumlee were both members of Duke’s 2010 title win. Ed and Charles O’Bannon also accomplished the rare feat, winning the title together at UCLA in 1995.
