A Baytown college debate coach has been accused of creating an explicit deepfake video involving a woman he knows and a juvenile, court filings allege.

Lee College debate coach Rigoberto Ruiz was charged with unlawful production of sexually explicit media, according to Harris County court records, after his then-girlfriend reportedly found a deepfake video portraying a woman, who both she and Ruiz knew, performing sexual acts with a juvenile. The video was created using photos of the females, court records show.

Authorities alleged Ruiz created the video “with the intent to deceive and depict a real person performing an act that did not occur in reality.”

Lee College did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Ruiz’s attorney, Nathaniel Pitoniak, said in an emailed statement: “We look forward to presenting our case in court.”

This is a developing story.
