The 41-year-old actor, who has spent time living in Marin County, is pregnant with her partner, “Girls” star Christopher Abbott. A representative confirmed the news to People magazine, which first reported the story. A source told the publication the baby is due this fall.
“It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” the source told People, adding that “they feel very blessed.”
The news marks a turning point for Plaza after a period of personal loss. Her husband, screenwriter and director Jeff Baena, died by suicide in January 2025 at age 47, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
“I mean, right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you,” Plaza said. “I feel overall, I’m here and I’m functioning, and I feel, you know, like I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I’m OK, but, you know, it’s like a daily struggle.”
Plaza is best known for her breakout role as April Ludgate on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” and has since built a wide-ranging film career, including “Ingrid Goes West” (2017), “Emily the Criminal” (2022) and Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” (2024). She is set to star in the upcoming film “The Accompanist.”
Plaza has largely kept a low profile since Baena’s death, returning selectively to public appearances and film work. She attended Paris Fashion Week last month, where she wore loose-fitting outfits that did not publicly reveal the pregnancy.
Plaza and Abbott have worked together before, including on the off-Broadway play “Danny and the Deep Blue Sea” and the 2020 film “Black Bear.”
