PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia is one step closer to getting a WNBA team.
The WNBA and NBA Board of Governors officially approved the league’s expansion into Philadelphia on Thursday night.
It was first announced last June.
Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, the same company that owns the 76ers, will own and operate the WNBA team.
The women’s basketball team doesn’t have a name yet.
Play is expected to start in 2030.
