The Arizona Diamondbacks took catcher Gabriel Moreno out of Friday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies with left lower back tightness, the team announced.

Moreno caught the first two innings, but veteran backup James McCann jumped behind the plate to start the third.

The second inning ended with Moreno throwing out Phillies outfielder Justin Crawford attempting to steal second base.

Moreno has heated up after a slow start to the season with six hits (.462 average) over his last five games entering Friday, including two doubles off the bench in Thursday’s 7-1 win over the New York Mets.

The catcher dealt with an elbow injury in spring training that caused him to miss a week, but he was cleared by the start of the regular season.

The Diamondbacks have three catchers on the roster with Moreno, McCann and Adrian Del Castillo.
