INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WLFI) – The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is offering free well water testing to eligible homeowners through its 2026 Groundwater Monitoring Network program.
The agency collects samples from qualified private wells to track groundwater conditions and identify areas affected by natural geology or human activity.
To qualify, property owners must live in Indiana and have an active private well. The well must be listed in the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Online Water Well Record Database.
Homeowners need to provide IDEM with a copy of their water well record. If they don’t have one, IDEM will try to find it in the DNR database.
Property owners must complete this online survey by June 1st.
IDEM will select a limited number of participants and contact them to schedule a sample collection between June and October 2026.
Participation is voluntary, and results will be shared directly with the homeowner.
Because private wells aren’t regulated, IDEM encourages homeowners to test their water regularly. More information is available at idem.IN.gov.
