Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has teased that her character, Bethany Platt, has a potentially divisive storyline on the horizon. The character has had many arguments in Weatherfield over the years, but this latest arc could have fans turning on her.

Fallon returned to the ITV soap in 2023 after a three-year absence, and in that time Bethany has had a rival for Daniel Osbourne’s affections, with a separate storyline seeing her contract sepsis after a cosmetic surgery operation went badly.

Speaking to The Mirror, Fallon teased that an upcoming storyline would divide opinion, with the actor saying: “She does [have a big storyline coming up]. I can’t tell you what it is, but it’s not going to be great. I don’t think people are going to be happy about it.”

“This one is low-key her fault. Everyone is going to be like, ‘She is a dick.’ Which is fine,” continued Fallon, with the actor adding that she was happy to tackle any storyline “as long as it’s a good one”.

While viewers will have to wait to see what the new storyline entails, Fallon did express gratitude for her role in the soap, declaring that it was an “amazing honour” to be at the centre of an arc.

Recently, Bethany became a target for the spiteful and manipulative Jodie Ramsey after airing some suspicions about her. Could that be related to the thing that Bethany does to make people dislike her?

“Nobody is safe from Jodie’s games – every move that she makes seems calculated and she revels in causing mayhem,” teased a Corrie insider last month. “Could Bethany be next in line?”

Elsewhere in the soap, the villainous Mal Roper will return to Weatherfield as his obsession with Bernie Winter-Alahan grows, while Glenda Shuttleworth will have a major role in the storyline involving Todd Grimshaw and Theo Silverton.

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
