Clermont County officers involved in fatal shooting in Pierce Township

The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office says that officers fatally shot an armed suspect in Pierce Township while responding to a call on Saturday morning.According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were dispatched to the Eastgate Mobile Home Park on State Route 125 at 12:11 a.m. after receiving a report from a 911 caller about an armed man who was said to be intoxicated and suicidal at the park.When officers arrived a few minutes later, police say that they located the suspect at the scene, who could reportedly be seen to be in possession of a firearm.Officers say that they then gave commands for the suspect to drop his weapon, but that he refused to comply. Police say this then led to two separate officers — a Clermont County Sheriff’s Office deputy and an officer with the Pierce Township Police Department — to discharge their weapons at the suspect.The suspect was said to have been struck by the gunfire. Local EMS personnel then arrived to the scene moments later, leading to the suspect to be flown by helicopter to a local hospital.Officers say the man was then pronounced dead at 1:05 a.m., just minutes after the helicopter arrived at the hospital.The suspect has yet to be identified by police.The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office says that no law enforcement personnel were injured in the incident.The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is now expected to conduct an investigation into the shooting, as is routine after all officer-involved shooting incidents in Ohio. The two officers who discharged their weapons are expected to be placed on administrative leave as the investigation gets underway.
