AUBURN, Calif. (KOLO) – On April 5, 2026, at 10:49 a.m., a spot fire between Landis Circle and the eastbound Interstate 80 on ramp in Auburn was reported, according to an Auburn Police Department Facebook post.
Auburn Fire Department firefighters responded, quickly contained, and extinguished it.
Initially, it was believed to be caused by a blown transformer, the post said.
Following an assessment of the scene, firefighters determined the fire was caused by a squirrel that came into contact with equipment on a PG&E utility pole, which resulted in damage to a glass insulator, the post said. It ignited nearby vegetation.
There were no injuries reported.
