The eastbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway were reopened Sunday morning following a crash involving a state police vehicle near Exit 14 in Hempstead.
About 5 a.m., state troopers were at the site of a two-car collision near exit 15, when another car struck the troopers’ marked patrol car, according to Brittany Burton, a spokesperson for the New York State Police.
One trooper, who was been sitting in the patrol car, and the driver of another car sustained minor injuries, Burton said.
The driver who struck the police car was not initially charged, Burton told Newsday.
All eastbound traffic was rerouted at Exit 13 for Central Avenue in Valley Stream. Following an investigation, the roadway was reopened by 9 a.m.
