INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indiana Fever fan favorite is returning to the team for the upcoming season.
The Fever announced on Sunday morning that guard Sophie Cunningham is coming back for her second season with the team after agreeing to a new deal with the franchise. It is a one-year deal, according to multiple reports.
“We are thrilled to have Sophie back with the Fever and are grateful for her commitment to return and build on what we started a year ago,” Fever Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Amber Cox said in a press release. “Not only is Sophie one of the best three-point shooters in the league, but she is an exceptional teammate, both on and off the court. She plays with infectious energy that impacts not only our team, but our fanbase as well.”
Cunningham played in 30 regular season games during the 2025 season, averaging 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Her season though would ultimately be cut short due to a knee injury.
Last year was Cunningham’s first year as a member of the Fever. She had previously played for the Phoenix Mercury.
“We had a really special group last year and it was an incredible first season for me in Indy; I loved everything about my teammates and the Fever organization,” Cunningham said in the press release. “We fought through a ton of adversity, and it was important to me that we have a chance to see through what we started. I have a feeling this is going to be another special season, so I’m excited to get things started and to, of course, keep playing in front of the best fans in the WNBA. Let’s get spicy!”
Cunningham is the latest player from last year’s roster that the Fever have re-signed this weekend. The other players include guard Lexie Hull and guard Kelsey Mitchell.
