Sergio Garcia found himself in trouble with Masters officials on Sunday after a frustrating stretch early in his final round led to some visible anger on the course. The former champion was reportedly given a code of conduct warning after damaging the tee box on the second hole and later snapping his driver following another poor shot.
It was an ugly sequence for Garcia, who has never been shy about showing emotion on the golf course. But at a place like Augusta, where officials are known for taking player behavior seriously, his outburst quickly drew attention and led to action from tournament officials.

The news was confirmed on X by Yahoo sports who posted, “Sergio Garcia was issued a code of conduct warning by the chairman of the Masters rules and competition committee after an incident on the 2nd hole Sunday per @dougferguson405.”
A Closer Look at the Tournament So Far for Sergio Garcia
Sunday started badly and only got worse for Sergio Garcia at Augusta. Already out of contention and sitting far behind the leaders, Garcia looked frustrated almost immediately. After a poor drive on the second hole sailed way offline, he lost his temper in full view of everyone around the tee box.

He slammed his club into the ground multiple times, tearing up the turf, then walked over and smashed his driver against a nearby cooler hard enough to break it. Because the club was damaged out of anger, Garcia was stuck without a driver for the rest of the round.
Not long after, Masters officials stepped in. Competition committee chairman Geoff Yang spoke with Garcia a few holes later and issued him a warning for his behavior. Garcia was not interested in getting into the details afterward, saying only that it had been building for a while and that he was not proud of the way he acted.

For golf fans, none of it came as a huge surprise. Garcia has had plenty of similar moments over the years, from damaging greens in Saudi Arabia to breaking clubs at other major tournaments. His fiery personality has always been part of who he is, but it has often gotten him into trouble.

Oddly enough, the mood lightened a little later in the round when Garcia jokingly picked up Jon Rahm’s bag for a few moments while Rahm’s caddie was busy. It gave the crowd something to laugh about on a day that had otherwise been full of frustration for the Spaniard.
