Rory McIlroy made history Sunday afternoon at Augusta National, joining yet another elite group of golfers with his latest Masters win.

McIlroy, who blew a six-shot lead at the midway point of the tournament, rebounded to grab a one-shot win at the Masters on Sunday afternoon. He is now just the fourth golfer in history to win the green jacket in back-to-back years, joining Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods.

As a result, McIlroy is also taking home a $4.5 million check.

The Masters offered a record $22.5 million purse. While that’s not the largest in the golf world each season, it is the biggest in major event and Masters history.

The Masters offered $21 million last year, which earned McIlroy a $4.2 million check to go with his first career green jacket. That was in line with the other three major championships, too. The PGA Championship held a $19 million purse, and the British Open was last at $17 million. The U.S. Open beat the Masters slightly last summer with its $21.5 million purse.

The PGA Tour offers signature events with purses of at least $20 million this season, so the Masters is comparable to the Tour’s biggest events. The Players Championship is the richest event of the season, however, with its $25 million purse.
