A major Captain America villain could make a highly anticipated return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A new report suggests the fan-favorite antagonist will appear in an upcoming MCU project after years away from the franchise.
Baron Zemo gets exciting return rumor
Industry insider James Mack recently shared on X that Baron Zemo will appear in a future project. The post has already gained over 22,000 views since April 12, 2026.
“I heard that Baron Zemo is going to appear in a future project,” Mack wrote. Marvel Studios has not confirmed or denied this claim at the time of writing. The studio typically keeps casting and character details under wraps until official announcements.
Daniel Brühl has portrayed the Sokovian nobleman across multiple MCU entries since 2016. He first appeared in Captain America: Civil War as the mastermind behind the Avengers’ collapse. He returned in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier for five episodes.
Zemo’s story left him imprisoned inside the Raft at the end of that Disney+ series. The Dora Milaje captured him in Sokovia after Bucky Barnes handed him over. His butler, Oeznik, carried out his final orders by assassinating the remaining Flag Smashers.
The character was originally set to appear in Thunderbolts* as a surprise reveal. Writers Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo ultimately removed him from the film’s script. They determined he did not fit the narrative they were building for that project.
Zemo stands out as one of the few villains who have actually defeated the Avengers. He tore the team apart by exposing the Winter Soldier’s role in killing Howard and Maria Stark. His methodical approach made him a fan-favorite antagonist throughout his MCU appearances.
Fans now await official word from Marvel Studios regarding any potential return for the character. Brühl has previously expressed interest in reprising the role in future projects.
