While most eyes will on the WTA 500 event in Stuttgart, Rouen features a very competitive field this year and should provide plenty of exciting matches and unpredictable outcomes throughout the week. With no top players in the draw, many players will feel that this is a great chance for a rare deep run or even a title, and that should lead to a great week of tennis and a very exciting day 2 tomorrow.
WTA Rouen Day 2 Predictions
Iryna Shymanovich vs Linda Fruhvirotva
Head-to-head: Fruhvirotva 1-0 Shymanovich
It’s rare to see a matchup between two players ranked outside the Top 140 at this level, and as such this is an excellent opportunity to both players to kickstart a run that could see them gain some very valuable ranking point and positions. Fruhvirotva won with relative ease at the 2024 Roland Garros qualifying, but this time around it should be a much closer match and come down to whoever holds their nerve and executes better on the biggest points.
Prediction: Fruhvirotva in 3
Chloe Paquet vs Xinyu Wang
Head-to-head: Paquet 1-0 Wang
Wang is the third-highest-ranked player in the draw and as such certainly has legitimate ambitions to go all the way this week. Paquet played some good tennis in qualifying to make it to the main draw, but under normal circumstances Wang should have the edge here and advance to the next round.
Prediction: Wang in 2
Tiantsoa Sarah Rakotomanga Rajanoah vs Jaqueline Cristian
Head-to-head: Rajanoah 1-0 Cristian
On paper, this is the most one sided match of the day, given the difference in ranking and Rajanoah’s recent results. That said, their one previous meeting occured at this tournament last year and it was won with relative ease by the Frenchwoman, so Cristian will definitely have to be wary. Nevertheless, such an upset is unlikely to occur again and under normal circumstances it should be Cristian making it to the next round here.
Prediction: Cristian in 2
Anna Blinkova vs Dominika Salkova
Head-to-head: Blinkova 1-0 Salkova
While Blinkova won in straights when the pair faced last year in Jiujiang, there is very little to separare these two players in general and this is a very hard match to call. That said, Salkova has been playing far more matches on clay in recent weeks and those extra reps on the surface might give her the slightest of edges in what should be an extremely tight matchup.
Prediction: Salkova in 3
