COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) – The Council Bluffs Police Department reports that two schools were under lockdown Tuesday morning.
Police say at about 8:30 a.m., they were told of “threats of violence” towards the Iowa School for the Deaf and Lewis Central Community School District.
In a social media post, CBPD writes that the schools were placed on lockdown while officers responded to the campuses.
At 08:30 a.m., we received information about threats of violence towards ISD and @lewiscentralcsd. Both schools are on lockdown, and officers are present at each location. We have no reason to believe anyone is in danger, and we will share updates as we have them.

In an updated post, police said Lewis Central was not a target of the threat, but was placed on lockdown due to its proximity. Officers were at “all three buildings,” according to the post.
Just before 10 a.m., CBPD said it was determined to be a swatting incident and not a legitimate call.
“There is nothing to indicate that anyone was in any danger. Both campuses are being released from their lockdown/hold,” the post reads.
We determined this was not a legitimate call and have deemed it a swatting incident. There is nothing to indicate that anyone was in any danger. Both campuses are being released from their lockdown/hold. We appreciate both schools for their communication during this incident.
