OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Omaha Police have identified the officers involved in the shooting death that left a 31-year-old woman who attacked a 3-year-old boy during an attempted kidnapping incident at Walmart on Tuesday morning.
In an update Wednesday morning, police said Patrol Officers Roger Oseka and Brian Seaton were the officers involved in the shooting death of Noemi Guzman. The two officers, who each have 22 years police experience, have been placed on paid critical incident leave and will be interviewed at a later date, per department policy. The case will also be submitted to a grand jury, per Nebraska law.

Body-worn camera images shared by OPD on Tuesday showed her holding a knife over the boy, who was seated in a shopping cart as officers had their guns drawn. No officers were injured in the incident that unfolded around 9:15 a.m. Tuesady at the Walmart store at 72nd and Pine streets, but the boy was taken to the hospital with lacerations.
OPD said in updates on Tuesday that surveillance video showed that Guzman had shoplifted a large kitchen knife, approached the guardian and the child, then forced the guardian to walk in front of the cart while Guzman took control of the cart and directed both of them to the parking lot.
According to OPD, officers immediately began to approach Guzman, intercepting her shortly after she, the child, and the guardian were exiting the store and making their way east toward the parking lot entrance.
After multiple commands to drop the knife, Guzman began to cut the boy. The officers then both fired their patrol weapons, shooting her. Officers attempted life-saving measures on Guzman, but she was declared dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the boy’s guardian and a bystander were able to remove the child from the cart and render aid. The boy was taken to the hospital; his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, with the Omaha Police Department Officer-Involved Investigations Team being assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol, and Douglas and Sarpy County Sheriff’s Offices.
She was scheduled for an annual review on June 12.
