WORCESTER, Mass. —

Wednesday night, Coast Guard women’s lacrosse had a definitive win over Clark University with a final score of 17-1. The Bears’ record is now 11-1 in the regular season and remains perfect in the NEWMAC with an 8-0 record. The Cougars fall to 3-10 overall and 1-7 in NEWMAC play.

The Bears got their offense going early, as usual, as senior Abby McAllister (Pleasantville, N.Y.) scored her first of the day 38 seconds into the game. Coast Guard’s leading scorer finished the day with four goals, two assists, two groundballs, and four caused-turnovers. Coast Guard scored four more goals before Clark got their first and only goal of the night. Sophomore Elizabeth Pearcy (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored with just under two minutes remaining in the first quarter to give the Bears their 5-goal advantage back.

Coast Guard held Clark scoreless the remainder of the game, and added four more goals to their lead in the second quarter. The Bears led 10-1 at halftime.

The third quarter proved to be more of the same with the same result in the box score as the second quarter with the Bears scoring another four goals while holding Clark scoreless, despite the Cougars managing to get three shots on goal which was the most they got of the night.

Offensively in the fourth quarter, things started to slow down. There was no coming back for Clark as they could not find the back of the net. Coast Guard went on to score three goals in the final 15 minutes of play. The Bears had an impressive eight different players scoring a goal tonight.

On defense, Ella Campbell (Foxborough, Mass.) and Rileigh Leary (Holden, Mass.) each wrangled in three draw controls, Campbell doing so as the newest member of the 100 draw control club at Coast Guard. Lauren Henry (Monroe, Conn.), Joely Schaumloffel (Remsenburg, N.Y.), and Abby McAllister each caused four turnovers.

Starting goalkeeper Kailee Heron (West Islip, N.Y.) wasn’t tested often but made two saves. In relief of Heron was freshman Cali Morelli (Old Saybrook, Conn.) who played the final quarter, making three saves and not allowing a goal.

Coast Guard women’s lacrosse will be back in action this Saturday, April 18th as they will host MIT at Cadet Memorial Field. MIT is currently the only other team in the NEWMAC with a perfect record (8-0). The winner of Coast Guard and MIT will be the NEWMAC regular season champ! This contest will start at 12pm EST.Â
