TABERG, N.Y. — A bear cub briefly stopped traffic on West Ava Road in Oneida County.

New York State Police shared that Sergeant Station Commander Richard Kosakowski, assigned to Troop D, was alerted by a passerby to the cub in the Taberg roadway.

Kosakowski contacted the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, which responded.

The cub, weighing 2.7 pounds, is presently being cared for by the Woodhaven Wildlife Center in Chadwicks.

Rescuers searched the area in which the cub was found and allowed it to “cry” for a while in hopes that the bear’s mother would come back.

Unfortunately, she did not return.

NYSP reminded drivers to slow down and stay alert for unexpected animals crossing the road.
