Li Jun Li, one of the breakout stars of “Sinners,” has joined Season 3 of “The Last of Us,” Variety has learned exclusively.
In the HBO Max series, she will play Miriam, a Seraphite and the mother of Lev and Yara. As previously announced, Michelle Mao will play Yara and Kyriana Kratter will play Lev, siblings whose paths cross with Abby at a pivotal moment, as Ellie begins her revenge rampage in Seattle.
She joins a growing ensemble that includes Jason Ritter and Patrick Wilson, along with Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle and Spencer Lord, who have been promoted to series regulars after recurring in Season 2. They join previously announced additions of Clea DuVall and Jorge Lendeborg Jr., the latter taking over the role of Manny. Returning cast members include Kaitlyn Dever, Bella Ramsey, Isabella Merced, Gabriel Luna and Jeffrey Wright.
Li is set to appear next in “Spider-Noir,” starring opposite Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage. The Prime Video live-action Marvel series is slated to premiere globally on May 27. She recently drew acclaim for her performance as Grace Chow in Ryan Coogler’s Oscar record-breaking vampire drama “Sinners.”
Her previous television credits include Peacock’s “Based on a True Story” and Paramount’s “Evil.”
“The Last of Us” was renewed for a third season in 2025, ahead of its Season 2 debut. Based on the hit video game franchise, the series is set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a fungal infection that transforms much of humanity into violent, infected creatures. The series was co-created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.
Druckmann announced his departure ahead of Season 3, leaving Mazin as the sole showrunner. Mazin will also write and executive produce.
“The Last of Us” is a co-production between HBO and Sony Pictures Television. Executive producers include Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan and Evan Wells. PlayStation Productions, Word Games, Mighty Mint and Naughty Dog produce.
“The Last of Us” is expected to begin shooting this summer.
Li is repped by Gersh, Authentic, attorneys Karl Austen and Andrew Howard, and Persona PR.
