The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday for a new 21,000-square-foot health center, according to tribal officials.
The new health center will help expand access to modern, patient-centered care for tribal members and the broader regional community, while reflecting Mashantucket Pequot traditions, culture, and values, officials said. The health center is a collaboration between MPTN and Hartford HealthCare.
The facility will feature two distinct but connected components, officials said. Tribal Health Services will exclusively serve members of federally recognized tribes, while an HHC clinic will be open to the general public. The concept is to “create a shared, innovative model of care for southeastern Connecticut,” officials said. The facility will also include an on-site pharmacy and physical therapy services.
During the groundbreaking ceremony Monday, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation speakers will include Chairman Rodney Butler, Tribal Councilor Michele Scott, Chairwoman of the MPTN Health & Human Services Committee, Member of the Hartford HealthCare East Region Board of Directors, Dr. Setu Vora, Chief Medical Officer, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, and Herbert Boyd, Vice Chairman, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Elders Council.
The groundbreaking ceremony is set to begin on Monday at 11 a.m. at 102 Pequot Trail in Mashantucket.
