Eight children are dead after a mass shooting on Sunday morning in Shreveport. Police identified the suspect as Shamar Elkins. The children were identified by their mothers as Jayla Elkins, 3; Shayla Elkins, 5; Kayla Pugh, 6; Layla Pugh, 7; Markaydon Pugh, 10; Sariahh Snow, 11; Khedarrion Snow, 6; and Braylon Snow, 5.According to Shreveport Police Department spokesperson Chris Bordelon, the suspect had been arrested in 2019 in a firearms case. According to police, the suspect first shot a woman on Harrison Street before traveling to the residence in the 300 block of West 79th Street, where the shooting continued. After leaving the scene, the suspect carjacked a man at gunpoint near the intersection of Linwood Avenue and West 79th Street.Police located the stolen car, and a chase ensued into Bossier Parish. At that time, three police officers discharged their firearms, shooting and killing the suspect. According to police, they believe he was the only person who fired gunshots at the location. The identity of the suspect will be released once next of kin notifications have been completed for all victims involved.No other information has been provided at this time.
