Angel Reese’s arrival at the Atlanta Dream wasn’t quite the reception she might have hoped for from her new teammates.

The WNBA was stunned earlier this month when the Dream acquired Reese from the Sky in a blockbuster deal. Atlanta parted with first-round selections in 2027 and 2028, while also securing the ability to exchange second-round picks with Chicago in 2028.

“I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to join the Atlanta Dream organization,” Reese said in an official statement. “I’m focused on continuing to grow my game, competing at the highest level, connecting with the fans, and giving everything I’ve got to the Dream.” It comes as Caitlin Clark was questioned for her silence after Fever snapped up WNBA Draft star.

However, Reese’s welcome press conference with the Dream quickly turned into an unexpected roasting. Sitting alongside Rhyne Howard, Allisha Gray and Naz Hillmon, the talented forward found herself on the receiving end of multiple good-natured jabs from her new colleagues.

Howard kicked things off by joking: “Any time Angel’s been on the other side of the court I think I had 30.” The comment appeared to surprise Reese, whose expression showed shock as reporters in attendance burst into laughter, reports the Mirror US.

Hillmon didn’t hold back either, stating plainly: “Angel’s annoying as hell.” Gray wrapped things up by adding: “I loved playing against Chicago because I had my best games.”

Despite the harsh teasing, Reese handled her teammates’ comments with humor before discussing the “sisterhood” that exists in the Dream’s locker room. “Being able to come to an organization that really cared about their players, just being able to see a GM that really wanted me and knew what my talents are,” Reese explained.

“Being able to talk to players that genuinely know what I am and who I am as a person, but also as a player, is like a breath of fresh air. It lowkey makes me emotional because I haven’t had this and I’m really grateful and I’m really looking forward to the start.”

Since landing with the Sky as the No. 7 overall selection in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Reese has racked up impressive individual achievements at the professional level. Throughout her opening two campaigns, she put up 14.0 points and 12.8 rebounds per contest while earning back-to-back All Star nods.

However, Reese’s stint in Chicago concluded on a disappointing note, as the LSU alum admitted she “wanted more” from her WNBA journey.

“I’m always gonna be grateful for that because I did experience a lot of great things,” Reese reflected on her time with the Sky. “I enjoyed being able to grow within my first two years, but I wanted more. I love to win, I love to compete and I wanted to be surrounded by people that can make me better.

“And I am not satisfied with what I am as a player, and I felt like being around these kinds of players would help me be better. I can help them in different ways to help them win, and that’s all I ever wanted.

“I don’t care about anything else that comes with it. I want to win and being able to come to an organization that really cared about their players.”
