For Drug Take Back Day on April 25, medical groups and local law enforcement are providing ways to “safely dispose” of unwanted or unused prescriptions.

BOISE, Idaho — A coalition of organizations is banding together and holding an event on Saturday to allow the public to safely dispose of prescribed drugs. 

On April 25, The City of Boise, Blue Cross of Idaho in partnership with the Meridian Anti-Drug Coalition and South Central District Health are recognizing Drug Take Back Day by providing drop off stations for unneeded, unwanted or unused prescriptions.

Dozens of stations will be placed across the state. Here are the locations across Idaho serving as drop-off or drive-thru locations.


BOISE

On April 25, the Boise Police Department, in partnership with the City of Boise Curb It Program and AARP Idaho, is hosting a drive-thru drop off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at City Hall West. 

Boise police officers and staff from the city will simply meet you at your car where you can then hand over your prescriptions. Items must be in original containers and can be bagged.

The following items are prohibited:

Business or medical office medications (e.g. veterinary offices, assisted/long-term care facilities, doctor offices)Chemotherapy drugsNeedles, sharps (lancets) or syringesAerosol cansHair care products or cosmeticsUrine or feces contaminated itemsBloody or infectious wasteHydrogen peroxideThermometersIV bags or cathetersBodily fluids of any kindEmpty pill containers (RX bottles should be included in Hefty® ReNew™ orange bag.)Illicit drugs


MERIDIAN

Blue Cross of Idaho and the Meridian Anti-Drug Coalition are partnering for an eighth year to host Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

Medications, including tablets, capsules and patches, will be accepted at Blue Cross on 3000 E. Pine Avenue, Meridian, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 


TWIN FALLS

South Central Public Health District (SCPHD) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) plus additional community partners, are hosting an event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Purchase commercially available sharps container. If you do not have a sharps container, use a plastic bottle that cannot be broken or punctured, such as a bleach bottle or laundry detergent bottle.With permanent marker label container, “USED HOUSEHOLD SHARPS – DO NOT RECYCLE”Add sharps point-first into container.Keep lid on at all times to prevent spills and decrease needle stick hazards.Fill container as much as possible with sharps. You must be able to close container lid.When full, cap container with lid and duct tape shut.Place in trash
