Couple interesting tidbits I’ve come across re: Eagles and Jonathan Greenard

Anthony Gargano of the PHLY network has been pushing Greenard to the Eagles hard. Take it for what its worth, Gargano’s a sports radio guy, yada yada. The guy has sources with the team, maybe they’re feeding him BS, maybe not.

On a podcast yesterday, when asked what the juiciest piece of intel he’s heard is, stated, “I know something is happening, I just can’t say it yet. I was told I can’t say it until we are getting on the clock.” I get why this is easy to and deserving of lampooning. But this wasn’t just him tweeting out “I know something but can’t tell until it happens!” He was asked seemingly unexpectedly, and it’s sort of all he had to say about the question. Notably, Jay has broken some Eagles stories, such as Sean Desai’s demotion/Matt Patricia’s promotion in 2023.

On the read optional podcast, at about the 1:19:00 mark, when discussing the Eagles, Ollie Connelly (recently in the news for breaking the Rueben Bain careless driving citation) had the following exchange while doing a mock draft and discussing the Eagles pick:

Jon Ledyard: Alright, Philly’s on the clock here. You’re saying they’re getting Jonathan Greenard huh? Is this breaking news or is this out there?

Connelly: I assume it’s out there, right?

Ledyard: I don’t think so Ollie.

Connelly: (Laughing) Ok, uh-oh. […] I think the edge need will be solved on the 2nd or 3rd day of the draft, both through a trade and trying to find one of the speedsters off the ball.

Basically, Connelly was saying that you can rule out edge rusher at 23 for the Eagles because they’re already working on a different plan to address the position.

The Glazer comments can be attributed to anything, but they create a sense that there’s a trade that’s already done. Combine with the similar implication from Connelly that Greenard to the Eagles might as well be public knowledge at this point. And earlier reports from this offseason that the main holdup was figuring out a new contract for Greenard, and it sounds like the Eagles have a new veteran pass rusher.

P.S.: No longer confident in my prediction from this morning that the Eagles will select Keldric Faulk at 23.
