KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Some local high school students got hands-on career exploration at Beacon Hospital in Kalamazoo Friday morning.
Students from Kalamazoo Central and Loy Norrix high schools got to practice real healthcare skills, such as drawing blood on mannequins and physical therapy stretches.
Event coordinators say this shows students there’s a whole spectrum of healthcare careers.
“They’re going through different stations…practicing their suturing, casting, seeing our physical therapists and our other professionals in action,” Kayla Alvarez, workforce development coordinator, said. “So, really getting to see the work that we do in health care and getting to see some of the professionals and the tools they use in their everyday jobs.”
Beacon Kalamazoo, formerly Borgess, said this is the fourth time they’ve held an event like this for students.
