Sophie Cunningham couldn’t resist poking fun at Caitlin Clark.
Cunningham and Clark, two key players for the Indiana Fever, have developed a strong bond since the former joined the team via trade ahead of the 2025 WNBA season. Their closeness is evident in how often they playfully tease each other or crack jokes at one another’s expense.
Now, Cunningham has added another moment to their friendship story. During a recent Pass the Phone game, the Fever veteran had some humorous words for her star teammate. This follows the 30-year-old’s admission that she received a reality check with her new contract.

In the clip, Cunningham said, “I’m passing the phone to someone who needs a tan and has the attention span of a fish” before the camera immediately switched to Clark.
This isn’t the first instance of Cunningham making a joke at Clark’s expense due to their tight friendship. Since joining Indiana before the 2025 season, the pair have been practically inseparable, with their adventures regularly posted on social media.
Throughout the 2025 season, both players strengthened their bond as they spent time sidelined together, recovering from different injuries. Clark, specifically, was off the court for an extended period, appearing in just 13 games while dealing with various health issues. On the court, Cunningham served as an enforcer for the Fever, embracing the chance to defend her teammates whenever they encountered confrontations. Across 30 games, Cunningham posted averages of 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 steals over 25.2 minutes per game.
Despite spending just one season in Indiana, Cunningham expressed her strong desire to remain with the Fever long-term. The free agent inked a one-year, $665,000 contract and informed reporters she would have preferred a lengthier deal.

“I am so grateful,” she said, according to ESPN.
“I know I’m coming off a pretty big knee injury, and so it was never about the money. It was just about the years, because I wanted to be with them. God forbid, a girl loves her teammates.”
Her statements followed revelations on her podcast that her contract fell short of her expectations. Recovering from a torn MCL injury, which she says enabled her to play in February, Cunningham suspected there was reluctance due to the setback.
“I’m almost 30 years old,” Cunningham continued. “I want to have a home. I want to kind of get established. And I would love to get established in a place like Indiana.
“We had such a great time. When you find a group of girls who really make you fall in love with basketball again, and you enjoy it and you enjoy them – not only on the court, but off the court – you want to hold on to that. And so that’s what I meant by that.” Demonstrating the strong bond with her teammates, Cunningham stated: “All of them this morning, they’re like, ‘We know exactly what you meant.’ The internet is doing what the internet does, and it’s trying to stir things up.”
