BUCKHANNON, W.Va (WDTV/Gray News) – A West Virginia teen caught a record-breaking golden rainbow trout during the state’s 2026 Gold Rush event.
Hunter Rohr caught a 28-inch, 11.84-pound golden rainbow trout during the annual Gold Rush event.

The previously held record length was a 27.5-inch golden rainbow trout, caught in 1987. The previous weight recorded was 9.72 pounds, noted during the 2023 Gold Rush event.
For the last nine years, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources has hosted a two-week-long fishing event known as Gold Rush. During that time, 50,000 golden rainbow trout are released into the state’s 69 lakes and streams.
