CHENANGO BRIDGE, N.Y. (WBNG) — Residents within a section of Chenango Bridge are now under a boil water advisory after Sunday’s State of Emergency and water conservation alert, according to information from the Town of Chenango.

Those impacted are asked to bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute, and cool before using. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food until further notice.
What happened?
Around 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, the water system lost pressure due to an unforeseen pump failure. When Water mains lose pressure, it increases the chance that untreated water and harmful microbes can enter your water, town officials said.
Residents in the impacted area were told to conserve water, and a state of emergency was issued.
Repair/replacement of the submersible well pump, motor, and wire is underway. It is likely that residents and others impacted will have to boil water for the next four days or up to 96 hours, until the problem is fixed, the town said.
Residents will be informed when tests show that they no longer need to boil the water, the town said.
For more information, residents are asked to call Gregory Burden of the Chenango Consolidated Water District #1 at 607-648-4809 ext 7 or the Broome County Health Department at 607-778-2847, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
