Fudd has picked up a bit of experience on the mound, as she threw out the first pitch for her hometown Washington Nationals last July, recognized as the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year while playing at St. John’s College High in Washington, D.C. The 5-foot-11 guard left some room for improvement, as she skipped her offering off the home plate dirt at Nationals Park.
Tuesday’s pitching appearance continues a whirlwind month for Fudd, which began with a disappointing performance in the Final Four as the Huskies suffered an upset loss to South Carolina in the first national semifinal. Still, the Wings opted to select Fudd with the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft from New York two weeks ago, and the star shooting guard immediately headed down to Dallas to begin her professional career amid a fast-approaching start to the season.
Fudd and Bueckers will team up for the Wings’ first pre-season game against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever Thursday afternoon. Dallas will also begin the regular season against Indiana, tipping off at 1 p.m. ET on ABC May 9.
