JUST MOMENTS AGO I WAS ABLE TO SPEAK WITH NEWPORT’S FIRE CHIEF. HE TELLS ME THAT TWO PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER BEING RESCUED FROM THIS FIRE. HE SAYS THAT THERE WERE THREE PEOPLE IN THE HOME WHEN THIS ALL STARTED. I’M GOING TO STEP OUT HERE SO YOU CAN SEE STILL A VERY ACTIVE SCENE. THE FIRE APPEARS TO BE COMPLETELY CONTAINED AT THIS POINT, BUT I WAS SPEAKING WITH NEIGHBORS EARLIER WHO DESCRIBED SEEING MASSIVE PLUMES OF SMOKE, FLAMES ALL COMING FROM THIS HOUSE. VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE HERE RIGHT NOW. THEY CAN’T GIVE US ANY UPDATE ON THE EXTENT OF THE INJURIES THAT THE TWO PEOPLE RESCUED FROM THE HOME ARE EXPERIENCING RIGHT NOW. AGAIN, JUST KNOW THAT THEY ARE BEING TREATED AT A NEARBY HOSPITAL. FIRE OFFICIALS SAY THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE MORE INFORMATION, INCLUDING THE CAUSE, LATER ON, BUT THIS IS STILL EARLY ON. FIRE CREWS ARRIVED HERE AROUND 5:29 P.M. TONIGHT, AND THEY’RE STILL NOW JUST WORKING, TRYING TO GET A LOOK AT THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE INSIDE. HERE YOU CAN HEAR A NEIGHBOR DESCRIBE EXACTLY WHAT HE SAW AS THIS WAS UNFOLDING. I’M JUST HAVING LIKE, OH MY GOD, I HOPE EVERYBODY’S OKAY, I HOPE NOTHING’S, YOU KNOW, DAMAGE OR EVEN SPREADING THE FIRE. BUT THEN KNOWING THAT THE KIDS WERE STILL IN THE HOUSE KIND OF REALLY TAKES YOU TO THE HEART. AND AGAIN, WE DON’T KNOW EXACTLY HOW OLD THE PEOPLE RESCUED FROM THE HOME ARE AT THIS TIME. WE’RE WORKING TO LEARN MORE. AND WE WILL, OF COURSE, BRING YOU THOSE DETAILS AS SOON AS WE HAVE THEM. WE WERE TOLD BY NEWPORT’S FIRE CHIEF THAT THEY’RE GOING TO BE HERE WORKING ON SCENE ACTIVELY FOR THE NEXT TWO HOURS. Two people were rushed to the hospital after a fire broke out at a house in Newport on Tuesday night.Firefighters were called to 15th Street, near Monmouth Street, around 5:29 p.m., with a second alarm called for. Newport’s fire chief said two people were taken to the hospital after the fire. He didn’t have an update on their conditions or their ages at this time. Smoke could be seen in the surrounding area of the house, with one neighbor describing the scary scene as firefighters arrived.“I’m just like ‘Oh my God’ I hope everybody’s okay. I hope nothing’s damaged or even spreading in the fire,” Eric Murray said.The chief said Monmouth Street, between 11thStreet and 16th Street, is closed as investigators remain at the scene
