Blazers bounced from playoffs after blowout Spurs victory in Game 5

  • April 29, 2026

SAN ANTONIO (KPTV) – The Portland Trail Blazers saw their season come to a close on Tuesday, falling to the San Antonio Spurs by a final score of 114-95 in Game 5 of their first round playoff matchup.

With the loss, Portland was eliminated from the playoffs, as the Spurs earned the 3-1 series victory to advance to the Western Conference Semifinals.

After blowing double-digit leads in the second half of both Game 3 and Game 4, the Blazers were playing behind from the get-go Tuesday – as the Spurs raced out to an early lead they never relinquished – leading wire-to-wire in a dominating performance.

San Antonio led by as many as 28 points in the game, and was up by double-digits for much of the night.

The Blazers made things interesting in the fourth quarter, pulling within nine points with eight minutes remaining after back-to-back three-pointers from Jrue Holiday and Sidy Cissoko.

However, the Spurs recovered following a time out to avoid another collapse of their own (Portland overcame a 14-point, fourth-quarter deficit to win Game 2), as veteran point guard De’Aaron Fox took over down the stretch with 13 points in the fourth quarter.

The Blazers now look ahead to their first offseason under new owner Tom Dundon.

Among the biggest questions facing the team is who will be the head coach come next fall.

Tiago Splitter has served as acting head coach after Chauncey Billups was arrested following the team’s first game as part of a federal gambling indictment. Billups isn’t due in court until Nov. 2, though a co-defendant in the case pleaded guilty on Tuesday.

On the court, bulk of the roster is under contract through at least the 2026-27 season. Veteran rotation pieces Robert Williams III and Matisse Thybulle will both become unrestricted free agents, along with reserve guard Blake Wesley.

The Blazers will also have guard Damian Lillard back in the fold, after the franchise’s all-time leading scorer sat out this season while recovering from an Achilles injury he suffered in the 2025 NBA Playoffs while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Portland does not currently have a first round pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, as the lottery-protected pick was finally conveyed to the Chicago Bulls to fulfill a 2021 trade obligation.
