‘Swing for the Wish’ charity golf tournament in Roseville ready to tee off
IT IS TIME TO TEE THINGS UP FOR A GREAT CAUSE. THE 19TH ANNUAL SWING FOR THE WISH GOLF CHARITY EVENT IS HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND. PROCEEDS HELP MAKE DREAMS COME TRUE FOR MAKE-A-WISH CHILD IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. JOINING US THIS MORNING IS MELANIE FLOOD AND KYLIE AS WELL FROM INTERSTATE INTERSTATE OIL VERY MUCH. THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR JOINING US THIS MORNING FOR HAVING US. AND SO THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL GOLF TOURNAMENT IS IT? NO, IT’S HELD AT TOPGOLF ROSEVILLE. AND IT’S COMING UP THIS SUNDAY, AUGUST 10TH. I LOVE TO THAT. THIS IS A TOPGOLF BECAUSE WHEN YOU START THINKING ABOUT CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENTS AND YOU’RE THINKING, OKAY, WE’RE GOING TO WALK THE COURSE, BUT NOT AT TOP GOLF. NO. SO THERE’S A LOT OF DIFFERENT CHALLENGES THAT PEOPLE CAN GET INVOLVED WITH. YEAH. SO AT THE EVENT WE RENT OUT THE ENTIRE THIRD FLOOR AND WE DO A LOT OF DIFFERENT COMPETITIONS LIKE LONG DRIVE CLOSEST TO THE PIN AS WELL AS HAVE A SILENT AND LIVE AUCTION. SO THAT’S MORE OF OUR FOCUS RATHER THAN THE NORMAL TOURNAMENT. VERY COOL. YOU KNOW, I FEEL SORRY I WASN’T TRYING TO BE RUDE. I KNOW YOU BROUGHT SOME SPECIAL GUESTS. WHO’D YOU BRING HERE WITH US TODAY? THESE ARE CALLED SQUISHMALLOWS. THESE ARE KIND OF MAKE-A-WISH MASCOTS. WE USE THEM AS AS WHAT WE CALL TO BOOST A WISH WHEN OUR CHILDREN ARE WAITING. SO MANY PEOPLE KNOW OUR KIDS ARE CRITICALLY ILL. WE HAVE A LONG WAIT IN THE SACRAMENTO REGION IN OUR CHAPTER FOR WISHES. BECAUSE OF SEVERAL FACTORS, OBVIOUSLY, AND WE FUNDRAISE TO GRANT THESE WISHES FOR KIDS. AND WHEN THESE KIDS ARE WAITING, WE LIKE TO GIVE THEM GIFTS. SO THAT’S WHAT THESE ARE FOR. AND I KNOW THIS IS THE 19TH ANNUAL VERSION OF THIS PARTICULAR GOLF TOURNAMENT. YES. AND YOU’VE BEEN ABLE TO HELP SO MANY PEOPLE. HOW MUCH MONEY HAS BEEN RAISED OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS? OVER THE LAST 19 YEARS, WE’VE BEEN ABLE TO RAISE OVER $700,000 TOWARDS MAKE-A-WISH. OH MY GOSH. OKAY, SO THAT’S AMAZING. AND HOW FAR DOES THAT GO TO HELP YOU FOLKS DO WHAT YOU DO? WELL, SO IF YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT WISHES WAITING IN OUR CHAPTER, OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY, WE HAVE NEARLY 500 WISHES THAT ARE WAITING. AND IF YOU ADDED UP ALL THE MONEY THAT IT COSTS AROUND $15,000 TO GRANT A WISH ON AVERAGE. NOW THAT’S THAT’S AN AVERAGE BECAUSE SOME WISHES CAN BE VERY EXPENSIVE AND SOME CAN BE, YOU KNOW, A LITTLE LESS EXPENSIVE. SO WE WOULD HAVE TO RAISE $7.5 MILLION TO GRANT ALL THE WISHES. AND ALL THE KIDS THAT ARE WAITING FOR THEIR WISHES. THAT’S INCREDIBLE. I KNOW THAT THERE’S SOME FOLKS WHO WOULD PROBABLY LOVE TO COME OUT AND PLAY GOLF, BUT THEY MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO THIS WEEKEND. BUT HOW CAN FOLKS HELP, YOU KNOW, HELP MAKE A WISH, MAKE OTHER WISHES COME TRUE FOR CHILDREN SO PEOPLE CAN DO EXACTLY WHAT KYLIE’S FAMILY DOES, WHICH IS DO A GOLF TOURNAMENT. THEY COULD DO A RUN IF THEY WANTED TO, BUT THEY CAN ALSO GO TO OUR WEBSITE, WHICH IS WISH.ORG SLASH. AND THEY CAN GET IN TOUCH WITH ANYONE ON OUR TEAM AND THEY CAN FIND OUT HOW THEY CAN HELP. OKAY. LET’S TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SWING FOR THE WISH. THAT EVENT HAPPENS THIS SUNDAY. TELL US SOME TIME HOW DO FOLKS SIGN UP? YEAH. SO IT’S THIS SUNDAY, 4 TO 7 P.M., AND YOU CAN SIGN UP AT SWING FOR THE WISH.COM AS WELL AS YOU CAN CALL OUR LOCAL NUMBER WITH ALL OF OUR INFORMATION ONLINE. AND AGAIN, THIS IS ALL HAPPENING AT THE TOPGOLF IN ROSEVILLE. YES LADIES THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING US THIS MORNING. WE APPRECIATE YOU BEING HERE. THANK YOU FOR HAVING US. YEAH
