2 children die after being pulled from Newport house fire

Two children have died after being pulled from a house fire and rushed to the hospital Tuesday night in Newport, according to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office.According to the coroner, Aaden Neice, 10, and Rykar Haggard, 5, both died as a result of injuries sustained form the fire.Neice and Haggard were rushed to Cincinnati Children’s Tuesday night. A neighbor told WLWT firefighters pulled the two children from the home.According to the coroner, the children died at the hospital.An official with Dayton Independent Schools confirmed Neice and Haggard were students in the system: Neice was a 5th grader and Haggard was a pre-schooler.The district says school leaders met with staff Wednesday morning. The principal and counselors met with the fifth grade class, and counselors will be on hand for students Wednesday, the district says. Firefighters were called to 15th Street, near Monmouth Street, around 5:29 p.m., with a second alarm called for.Smoke could be seen in the surrounding area of the house, with one neighbor describing the scary scene as firefighters arrived.“I’m just like ‘Oh my God’ I hope everybody’s okay. I hope nothing’s damaged or even spreading in the fire,” Eric Murray said.Murray says he watched as firefighters pulled two people from the home.”Knowing that the kids were still in the house kind of really takes it to the heart,” he said, “It tears you up, because I’m thinking my son, my daughter.”This is a developing story and will be updated when we learn more.
