Bomb squad investigates suspicious rental car at Howard Park in West Palm Beach
2800 PEOPLE, INCLUDING 67 WHO WERE BRITISH. AND WE CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THAT BREAKING NEWS OUT OF WEST PALM BEACH. POLICE FINDING A SUSPICIOUS CAR AT HOWARD PARK DURING A SECURITY SWEEP. THIS COMES RIGHT BEFORE AN EVENT WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP, WHICH IS SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW. CALEB CALIFANO LIVE NEAR THE SCENE. THIS HAPPENED IN DOWNTOWN WEST PALM BEACH, OFF OKEECHOBEE BOULEVARD ON PARK AVENUE. CALEB, WE KNOW RIGHT NOW IS A BUSY TIME FOR DOWNTOWN ROADS CLOSED. TELL US WHAT IT’S LOOKING LIKE. THAT IS CORRECT. WE ARE ON OKEECHOBEE RIGHT NOW IN QUADRANT. STEP OUT OF THE WAY JUST TO SHOW YOU WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. OKEECHOBEE QUADRANT RIGHT NOW IS COMPLETELY BACKED UP. WE’VE BEEN SEEING PEOPLE GET OUT OF THEIR CARS. WE’VE BEEN SEEING PEOPLE TAKE U-TURNS ON TOP OF THE CURB. IT’S BEEN PRETTY MUCH CHAOTIC HERE. AND THE REASON WHY IS OKEECHOBEE BOULEVARD IS CLOSED BOTH WAYS. YOU CAN SEE THERE’S A WEST PALM BEACH POLICE OFFICER THERE BLOCKING THE ROAD FOR VEHICLES. NO ONE IS ALLOWED IN OR OUT NEAR THE KRAVIS CENTER AND ALSO AROUND THE CONVENTION CENTER AS WELL. IT GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE 95 EXIT. SO CHAOS, PRETTY MUCH TRAFFIC CHAOS HERE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF OKEECHOBEE, NEAR QUADRO, THERE’S A LARGE BACKUP. WE WERE STUCK IN TRAFFIC FOR QUITE SOME TIME. NOW WE’RE LEARNING FROM THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE THAT THE WEST PALM BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT DID LOCATE A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE IN HOWARD PARK DURING A SECURITY SWEEP. THAT’S ACTUALLY ON THE OTHER SIDE, CLOSER TO 95 FROM WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW. IT’S A LARGE PARK RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE KRAVIS CENTER. BUT THAT’S ALL THAT WE KNOW SO FAR. WE DO KNOW THAT THE PBSO BOMB SQUAD IS ASSISTING. BUT AS I SAID BEFORE, HERE IN DOWNTOWN, BECAUSE OF THE CLOSURE OF OKEECHOBEE BOULEVARD, WHICH IS A MAJOR ROADWAY GOING BOTH WAYS, TRAFFIC IS QUITE CHAOTIC HERE. Police launched an investigation after they discovered a suspicious car at Howard Park in West Palm Beach during a security sweep Thursday. According to the West Palm Beach Police Department and the Palm Beach County Bomb Squad, an unattended rental vehicle was “swept out of an abundance of caution.” The renter has been located. Drivers were urged to avoid the area of Okeechobee Boulevard and Parker Avenue.
